So! Can we plot for the idea of bringing in someone? My thought was to bring in Alex Rogan, the Last Starfighter, from post his canon by a few years and have him end up lost in space, in suspended animation for 370-some years. Now, my ideas were, either, his universe and the Star Trek Universe are one and the same, so the Enterprise just finds him in deep space, or, conversely, Q, deciding introducing him this way would be fun, brings his ship, with him in it, to the Enterprise. Either way, he would have to be woken up in Sickbay and find out where and when he is.
